Today, in episode 252 of The Full Frontal Living™ Podcast I'm diving into a touching and deeply transformative conversation with my special guest, Sara Intonato, a consultant, yoga teacher, coach, and beacon of hope for parents with neurodiverse children, who has carved a new path for families seeking empowerment and understanding.
Fueled by her own experiences as a parent of a child with autism, Sara transformed her life and learned to transcend the shame, blame, martyrdom and victim mentality that many families with neurodiverse children succumb to.
Sara shares the journey that led her to create a comforting community for parents who felt alone and misunderstood, while coping with the diagnosis of their child. She talks about what it looks like to take an empowered role as a parent and not put 100% of the focus on your child, but also allowing yourself to thrive.
Sara opens up about her personal struggles and turning points, as well as how she harnessed the principles of yoga for self-healing and clarity amid the chaos. She will also discuss the importance of parents committing to their personal well-being, as much as they do for their children, thus recovering from an often below the surface martyrdom syndrome, which can lead to severe burnout and chronic health issues.
Sara highlights how this syndrome disrupts the sensitive regulatory systems of neurodiverse children, who then struggle to prosper in the face of parental stress. Learn about practical tools and strategies that not only empower parents but create a nurturing environment for the entire family.
Join us also as we delve into Sara's best-selling book, “Emotional Healing for Parents with Children of Autism,” which recounts her family’s journey and serves as a beacon of solace and guidance for parents experiencing similar situations.

Welcome back to another episode of the Full Frontal Living podcast. Today, Lisa is diving deep into emotional bypassing also known as toxic positivity.
This is a common behavior that many of us engage in without even realizing it. In episode 247, Lisa will be exploring what emotional bypassing is and why it's so important to recognize and address it in our lives.
It's undeniable that the world is going through some incredibly challenging times. As someone who deeply feels the weight of these events, she understands firsthand the struggle of navigating such heavy emotions. In her own journey, she's often found herself trying to escape the pain by getting lost in her thoughts, attempting to rationalize and understand it all. But the truth is, there are some things that we will never fully comprehend, like violence, hatred, and cruelty.
However, in times like these, it becomes even more crucial to lean into the foundational principles of emotional resiliency that she teaches. It's about finding ways to support our emotional well-being, especially when we're faced with such overwhelming circumstances. And this brings us to the heart of today's discussion: emotional bypassing and toxic positivity.
I was inspired to explore this topic after coming across a thought-provoking post by The Holistic psychologist. She eloquently articulated the concept of emotional bypassing as a coping mechanism, particularly through toxic positivity.
Gratitude is a powerful tool that can help shift our perspective, and there's a difference between using gratitude as a way to avoid or bypass our true emotions and being willing to sit with and experience those uncomfortable feelings.
Why do people resort to emotional bypassing?
It stems from being disassociated from our own emotions, because of the difficulty in sitting with the heavier, darker emotions that make us uncomfortable. And in a culture that glorifies chronic positivity and denies the existence of negative emotions, it's easy to see why bypassing becomes a prevalent coping mechanism.
Throughout this episode, Lisa explores the signs of emotional bypassing and its impact on ourselves and our relationships. She approaches this discussion with curiosity, kindness, and compassion, recognizing that we've all been guilty of emotional bypassing at some point in our lives. It's time to shift the focus from judgment to understanding as we delve deeper into the journey of emotional resilience.

Welcome to episode 245 of the Full Frontal Living podcast!
In today's master class episode, we're going to dive deep into the topic of how to master fear and doubt and take control of your life. We all face fear and doubt, no matter how successful we are or what we've accomplished. But the key is learning how to navigate these emotions in a powerful way. In this episode, we'll explore the role of fear and doubt, and how they can actually be valuable tools for growth. We'll also discuss a step-by-step process to help you move past your fears and doubts and step into your full potential. So get ready to discover the tools and strategies to conquer your fears and doubts and take control of your life. Let's dive in!
[00:00:36] Taking responsibility for fear and doubt is crucial. Regardless of how successful you may be, these emotions will always arise. Learning how to effectively deal with them is essential for personal growth. Moving past fear requires a strategy. In this episode, Lisa will provide the tool she uses personally to navigate through fear and doubt.
[00:03:54] Fear is meant to keep you safe, but can't differentiate between real and imagined threats. Determine if fear is genuine by distinguishing between real dangers and imagined scenarios in your mind. Fear and doubt aim to protect you.
[00:06:21] Naming and understanding fear; questioning worst-case scenario.
[00:09:21] The best thing is to see how crazy our fear is, and not give emotions too much meaning. Diffuse fear, doubt, and laugh at ourselves because life is meant to be fun. Most fears are just made up.
[00:14:37] The process helps to take action, laugh at oneself, and live fully.
[00:15:33] Partner with emotions, listen, distill. Create your desired life. Apply to work with Lisa at lisacarpenter.ca/collective
