I felt intuitively drawn to do an interview with someone I’ve had the pleasure of working with before. Emma Jensen and I connected thanks to Human Design, a system through which you can know yourself better and have a blueprint for your authentic self underneath all the social conditioning you’ve experienced.
In Human Design terms, Emma is what’s called a Projector type. Today, she’s here to explain what Human Design is and the benefits you can derive from it, all 5 types and their Not-Self themes, and some basics of the heart and emotional centers in the system.
4:06 - What Human Design is and what you need to generate your own chart
8:59 - The Reflector type, the only one who can truly step in others shoes
10:43 - The Projector type, who is here to guide others but only when invited
13:34 - Not-Self themes for Reflectors and Projectors and what they indicate
17:35 - The Manifestor, the only type meant to initiate things, and their Not-Self theme
21:53 - The Generator, who has sustainable energy (with caveats), and their Not-Self theme
25:07 - The Manifesting Generator, a mixture of two types, and their Not-Self theme
26:53 - Lessons I’ve learned as a Manifesting Generator in business
28:49 - Traits of having a defined or undefined heart center
38:33 - Traits of the gates within the heart center when defined or undefined
41:49 - What it means to have an undefined solar plexus center
49:00 - What it means to have a defined solar plexus center
54:18 - The meaning of the arrows at the top of the Human Design chart

I like to call many of you who listen to this podcast “controllers”. You’re very self-sufficient, know how to get things done, and do things for everyone else. In fact, you believe you know what’s best in other people’s lives. I used to be the same way as well.
We’re being asked to make big decisions these days that may or may not impact us and those around us long-term. But at the end of the day, everyone is responsible for their own choices and the consequences of such. So today’s episode is all about the freedom to choose and allowing it for others as we all move forward, in all areas of life.
4:01 - Riding a wave of emotion lately and feeling grief and gratitude
9:39 - A passage about love from a book I bought recently and why it hit me so hard
14:05 - Importance of releasing attachment to others’ decision-making, especially kids

Tara Newman has been my mentor, coach, client, and one of my best friends for a number of years. I couldn’t imagine doing business or life without her. She dropped a wisdom bomb recently that prompted me to want to have a conversation about women and money, the shame we carry with it, and the woo-wooing versus the doing when it comes to managing money or running a business.
5:36 - What Tara wrote that prompted this episode
9:53 - Becoming a product of the marketing messages sold to us
13:53 - Lack of money discussions in my family growing up
16:56 - How Tara figured out money by almost losing her house and her relationship with her dad
22:23 - What pushed Tara to set an intention to increase her financial literacy
28:50 - The danger of women not seeing themselves as financial providers for the family
33:29 - Why women have a hard time keeping money
40:25 - Resisting the woo without the do and the 7-figure business
43:43 - What makes your business sustainable (it isn’t money)
48:14 - The best place to learn more about Tara’s work

So many of the clients I work with are high-achievers who don’t recognize this fact about themselves. They feel like no matter what they achieve it isn’t good enough, because they’re comparing it or measuring it against someone or something else. So today, I want to share something with you in regards to learning how to feel your feelings and become a little more internally referenced.
2:08 - The real reason why we seek external validation
4:39 - The question I asked my 9-year old that had him pondering
8:01 - How I apply self-validation to my own life

No Emotion Is Negative

Today, I’m gonna rant a little. As I step more and more into my leadership role, I think it’s important to also share the icky bits. You can’t truly experience the expansion of joy and gratitude if you’re not also willing to dance at the other end of the emotional spectrum. So in this episode, I cover grief, sadness, anger, and allowing ourselves as women to be okay feeling those “negative” emotions knowing that they too serve you.
2:50 - Why I think it’s important to talk about this topic
10:20 - Why all of our emotions are good
16:04 - Not succumbing to the dark side of light addiction
20:45 - The Serenity Prayer and being in acceptance of unchangeable things

This episode is a special encore episode because Mother’s Day is coming up. It was among the first I put out for this podcast and it still rings true today. Back in the day, I was a real dragon mom. I yelled all the time at my kids and believed that if they’d just behave, then I’d feel better. But nothing was further from the truth. So I discuss my transformation into a mom who takes on the responsibility for my own feelings and behaviors and who developed a better relationship with myself and my kids.
7:28 - Reading my article from a few years ago about how to be a great mom
15:42 - What I learned and embraced as I continued to parent my boys
19:49 - Why shaming and blaming myself for the past is unnecessary
23:19 - How to not screw up your kids and ways to be a better mom

What do you believe about others who have what you want? Today’s topic of discussion came up in the last round of my now retired Weight Loss From Within program. The journaling prompt centered around how you can’t have for yourself what you hate or envy in others. When you do so, you’re repelling that energy instead of drawing it to yourself. Really think about the stories you have about people in regard to something you want for yourself.
5:56 - What Lisa wants you to know about healthy, fit people
9:19 - The hardest thing Lisa had to do to create the person she is now

Today, I’m talking to Carly from Sydney, Australia who started working with me in June 2020. I’ve brought her on because I want to share what transpired for her in the six months we worked together. She had really profound results after a year of hesitation. She was doing busy work for the sake of being busy and using up time...and then beat herself up over not getting everything on her daily to-do list done. In this episode, we discuss how she turned it around and learn to set boundaries for herself.
6:08 - The big problem Carly discovered when she first started
11:24 - Carly taking responsibility for what was happening at work
16:23 - How data (and a figurative face slap) led to a promotion and pay raise
19:36 - Why high-functioning women constantly throw themselves under the bus
25:43 - Where the energy behind drive or ambition really comes from
31:15 - What drives Lisa a little crazy in the coaching world
36:39 - The ultimate lesson Carly learned about herself

If you’ve been a regular listener, you’ve heard about how I’ve been feeling very flat and uninspired lately. After sharing how I’ve been feeling, I moved that energy and learned that over the years I was a control freak who didn’t want people to see that I didn’t have it all together. Through years of coaching and therapy, I discovered that I’m my most powerful when I’m talking about my experiences and allowing myself to feel what I’m feeling. Many of my clients also struggle with this. So if you’re feeling emotionally flat, you might have a case of emotional constipation.
5:18 - The comment from my son that made my jaw drop
9:45 - Operating with an underlying subconscious belief of lack

I’m committed to living an extraordinary life on my own terms, day in and day out. My business has just passed an incredibly significant milestone (which I’ll share on a future episode). For now, I just need to be present to what I’m experiencing and allow myself to celebrate and process it. So today, I’m taking you along on a drive with me (literally) as I talk about getting from point A to point B and what happens when you get to point B.
3:34 - What has shifted for me the past couple of years
5:24 - Why point B doesn’t exist and how it’s like an athlete’s career
8:09 - You’ll always be chasing happiness if you don’t learn to love the journey
